The North Peace Community Foundation (NPCF) proudly announces receiving $910,000 from the City of Fort St John. This donation marks the second installment of the BC Hydro Site C Legacy Funds.
From the City's perspective, an important driver of the Community Foundation initiative was a desire to effectively invest and distribute proceeds from agreements reached with BC Hydro in support of its Site C Dam project. This City is taking the long-term approach that maximizes the impact for future generations. Investing these funds through the North Peace Community Foundation, ensures they deliver long-term benefits for our community.
“Investing the BC Hydro Site C Legacy Funds through the North Peace Community Foundation helps ensure they continue to support local priorities for years to come”, shared Mayor Hansen. “The City helped establish the Foundation to create a lasting source of funding for community initiatives, and this contribution strengthens that vision by turning today’s opportunity into long-term community benefit.”
“This milestone reflects the shared vision of the City’s to create a permanent source of community-driven philanthropy,” said Tracey Wolsey, Chair of NPCF’s Board of Directors. “These funds endowed will provide annual grants for the community, in support of local non – profits of which play an essential role in our community”.
The North Peace Community Foundation was founded in 2021 centered on a vision of the City of Fort St. John, creating an organization to steward the BC Hydro legacy fund and to provide the City residents an ongoing endowment vehicle to bolster the important work of the non-profits. 2026 marks the 5th anniversary of the North Peace Community Foundation whose mission is to inspire community-driven philanthropy and steward enduring legacies that strengthen the North Peace Region. The NPCF currently holds 6 endowment funds, the NPCF Operations Fund, City of Fort St. John Legacy Fund, PETRONAS Sustainability Fund, the Coastal Gaslink Fund, the Peace River Hydro Partners Fund and the Wolsey & Pankratz Family Fund.
